Training Programs at the Institute of International Agriculture

The Institute of International Agriculture (IIA) and Michigan State University (MSU) has a long-standing commitment to training international students, scholars, scientists, and policy-makers so they can solve problems that limit development in their home countries and prepare for leadership roles in their nations. IIA develops and/or supports international courses, visiting scholar programs, scholarly exchanges, international fellowships, intern programs, and study abroud programs in support of these objectives.

The WorldTAP Program: offers international training programs that identify new and emerging technologies from both the public and private sectors, as well as facilitates the transfer of these valued agricultural technologies to scientists, policy makers, and governmental agencies throughout the developing world.

Short Courses: are provided through the WorldTAP program and offer educational and capacity building training programs in the following areas: Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) and Technology Transfer; Food Safety; Biosafety; Agroecology, Integrated Pest Management (IPM) and Sustainable Agriculture; Agricultural Biotechnology.

Study Tours: provide unique opportunities for educators, extension agents and others to gain international experience.

The China Program: has lead to the development of long term cooperation between agencies in China and MSU for training present and future Chinese leaders.

The Tokyo University of Agriculture (TUA) Exchange Program: Since 1968 MSU and TUA have participated in an exchange program involving students, as well as visiting professors and scholars.
