IIA Projects

RHESI Rwanda

The Rwanda Horticulture Export Standards Initiative (RHESI) is financed by the Standards and Trade Development Facilitation (STDF) global program funded by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations, the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE). the World Bank, the World Heath Organization (WHO) and the World Trade Organization (WTO).

The Institute of International Agriculture (IIA) at Michigan State University (MSU) was granted this project designed specifically to enhance Rwanda's access to these growing regional and international markets by focusing on a small number of horticulture products/subsectors with export potential and building that potential through targeted training and technical assistance in raising awareness, promoting good practices and developing the regulatory framework that will enable horticulture producer groups and agribusinesses to be successful in this competitive arena. Achieving these goals will have a parallel beneficial impact on domestic human and environment health.

in Kigali, Rwanda

In August of 2007, the RHESI Awareness Raising Workshop was held in Kigali, Rwanda in order to establish objectives and a timeline for the implementation of the project. This workshop resulted in the strengthening of public-private sector partnerships for sanitary and phyosanitary (SPS) standards in Rwanda as well as identifying key issues affecting key agricultural sectors.
