MSU Pearl Programs
The land grant mission of Michigan State University (MSU), originally instituted to empower the heartland, is now in the 21st century reaching across the globe to improve livelihoods in the developing countries of the world. The MSU Pearl Programs are the purest application of the land-grant tradition of partnership, practical application and research. These innovative international agriculture projects also tell stories of perseverance, of vision and of triumph.
Through the MSU Pearl Programs, the Institute for International Agriculture (IIA) spearheaded what has become a model for development of a high value agriculture export sector. The principles underlying the Pearl Programs' success translate to a host of high value crops in farm communities of other developing countries. The IIA is dedicated to applying those principles in an ongoing effort to support MSU in its larger objective of creating an educated, enlightened and more prosperous world.
