MSU Peace Corps Recruiter Position



The MSU Peace Corps Office is seeking applicants for two ¼ time Recruiter Positions for the 2009-2010 academic year, with possible extension for summer 2010 and beyond.
Recruiters must be a current MSU graduate student and RPCV who left Peace Corps service in good standing.
 
Duties include: recruitment, support, and interview of applicants, event planning, maintenance of MSU Peace Corps website and contacts, presentations to student groups and career fairs, weekly office hours (flexible), creation of monthly reports and yearly recruitment plan, and liaison with Chicago Regional Peace Corps Office.
 
Successful candidates must have outstanding organizational, communication, and presentation skills.

D'Itri, the MSU Fulbright Program Advisor, at ditri@msu.edu. Participants will be informed about the objectives, requirements, and deadlines for each program as well as how to: 1) develop a more competitive application, 2) select a host country, and 3) make necessary host country contacts. Fulbright Fellowships are prestigious and career-enhancing. They confer special status on winners during and following their foreign study, as outstanding, officially recognized representatives of the United States.
        
The Fulbright Program funds students, faculty, and other professionals to undertake graduate study, advanced research, and teaching at all levels: elementary, secondary, and university in more than 140 countries. Most grantees plan their own programs. Projects may include university coursework, independent library or field research, classes in a music conservatory or art school, special projects in the social or life sciences, or some combination. The grants pay for air travel, a monthly living stipend, health and accident insurance, and, in some cases, tuition waivers and research allowance.                 
        The approximate application submission deadlines for selected Fulbright Fellowship Programs for the 2010-2011 academic year are:

IIA and MSU receives funding for the Indian Horticulture Development Alliance (IHDA) from USAID

The Institute of International Agriculture and Michigan State University have been successful in the India PIKA competition and the proposal for the Indian Horticulture Development Alliance (IHDA) has been funded.   The award started Oct 1, 2008, with end date Sept 30, 2010 and is funded by USAID, coupled with leveraged funding from Indian partners (industry, government, commodity exchanges, agri-banks, university) and other partners such as GlobalGAP and CIES.  Drs. Thiagarajan and Bourquin  of MSU will lead this interdisciplinary effort in developing value chains in India. Click here for more information.

 


IIA and Michigan State University Welcome Agricultural Delegation from Poland

The Institute of International Agriculture was pleased to host a delegation of Polish Agriculturalists during their visit to Michigan State University (June 3rd-6th). The purpose of their visit was to tour research facilities and other sites involved in bioenergy. In addition, the delegation met with researchers to discuss agricultural biotechnology and marketing.

The Polish Agricultural Delegation with MSU hosts and local Agribusiness people meet in Frankemuth, Michigan

The group learned about ethanol and biodiesel production as well as the development of second generation biofuels, and saw first-hand how the U.S. experience with the technology may help Poland develop their biofuels sector. 

The delegation consisted of Minister Jan Krzysztof Ardanowski, Adviser on Agriculture to the President of Poland; Mr. Kazimierz Zmuda, Deputy Director of the Department of Agricultural Markets, and Chief of Biofuels, Polish Ministry of Agriculture; Professor Ryszard Kozlowski, Director of the Institute of Natural Fibers in Poznan; and Mr. Marek Szczygielski, Chief Inspector, Agricultural and Food Quality Inspection, Bydgoszcz Region. They were accompanied by Ms. Kate Snipes, the agricultural attaché to the U.S. embassy in Warsaw, Poland.

Dennis Pennington and Renee Applegate of MSU Extension and Mark Seamons of the MSU Product Center were responsible for developing the technical program and accompanying the delegation during their visit. Johan Brink and Anne Boone of the Institute of International Agriculture also aided in facilitating this very successful visit. Jakub Olszowiec, an MSU pre-law student, served as interpretor.

In addition to the Michigan State University campus, the group also visited a Biorefinery in Caro, a wind farm in Pigeon, Michigan; as well as General Motors and Chrysler in Detroit.
