Welcome

The Institute of International Agriculture (IIA) is one of the longstanding cornerstones of international programs at Michigan State University. Located in the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources (CANR), IIA provides a focal point for inter-departmental programs at MSU and engages faculty, students and industry partners through innovative programs around the world.

The Institute is home to many of MSU's externally funded international development project activities in the areas of food, agriculture and
natural resources. Through IIA, MSU's faculty open new vistas for collaborative research, offer exciting new training programs for international scientists and other professionals both on campus and in developing countries, and extend our scientific expertise to improve the lives of impoverished populations of the developing world as well as those in communities and industries in Michigan.

In partnership with international funding agencies, partner universities, NGOs, host country governments, and private sector companies, IIA has helped to establish Michigan State University as a center of excellence in global agrifood systems development, value chains for food and agricultural exports, international biotechnology and bio-safety, sustainable soil/water/forest management systems, and international extension programs.

Programs

The IIA coordinates both academic and nonacademic units to continue building an international dimension in ongoing programs of teaching, research, and extension. Programs include collaborative research with host country scientists; providing consultant services to international research organizations, foreign government agencies, and others; serving as guest lecturers; and hosting faculty and researchers from host country institutions. Many projects include training components, bringing international students to MSU master's and Ph.D. programs and for short-term non-degree programs.

The IIA is supported jointly by the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources and the MSU Office of International Studies and Programs (ISP).
